Dr. Saviour Chishimba President United Progressive People (UPP)
Fellow Compatriots: even though we have thankfully been transitioning from one party to another in peace, our country (Zambia) is not a Constitutional Democracy because the document that we have been referring to as our Constitution is actually Schedule 2 of the Order in Council issued by the Queen of England by invoking her powers so conferred by the Zambia Independence Act of 1964, Section 65 of the Laws of England.
This is the reason why the so called “Constitution” is cited as an “Amendment Act…”, it’s an amendment of a foreign law rooted in darkness. When UPP was launched at Broadway Hall in Ndola, we also unveiled the first ever freedom charter, which is an embodiment of what our founding fathers and mothers stood for when they fought for freedom. (See the attached excerpt from our Charter’s preamble).
Excerpt from our Charter’s preamble
The UPP-led Government shall, within the first 100 days of forming government, give Zambians the opportunity to exercise their sovereignty, for the first time since 1964, through a Constituent Assembly at which Zambians from all walks of life will be represented. The culture of abusing the foreign law by all the governments that we have had so far is evil and not good for country - it places Zambia among unstable countries in which the supreme law can be changed by any party in power at any time.
